Relaying Denied

I’m having sporadic problems sending to some domains. We’re running Domino 654 on Win2k Srv SP4. Excerpt from the log is below. To me, it looks like our mail server tries to send the message, but the receiving server denies it - anyone have any ideas? I’ve replaced the actual names/domains for privacy. Thanks!

I had a problem like this that was caused by our firewall. Giving the firewall an MX record on the DNS server fixed the problem.

Our email goes out through the firewall so that it looks to the receiving end like the firewall is making the SMTP connection. Since the firewall’s IP address didn’t have an MX record in our domain, some receivers would block the message as having been relayed even though it was coming from our own domain.

A couple of possabilities

  1. Your server some how ended up a blacklist that company uses.

  2. That company only allows mail from authorized domains.

Either way you have may to contact that company to find out.
