Reinstall the Domino Server in other machine

Dear all,

I would like to install the Domino Server in other machine (I just want to test the backup and want to install a spare machine so that when the original one is fail, I can replace with this spare machine)

The existing server is an additional server, the first server is R4.6 and it shutdown a year ago.

There is some steps to reinstall the Domino Server in IBM site.

But some questions arises.

  1. The Computer name cannot be same as the original one, can I change it later on ?

  2. In the installation steps, can I type the same host name with the original one (in the Advanced Network Settings)?

  3. In the step “Provide the system databases for this Domino Server” , which server I need to provide in “Other Domino Server name” ? Can I type the remote site server name ?

Any effect take place if I type the original Server name?

Will it affect the Domino Directory?

  1. How can I reinstall the Server if I disable the network connection (But I think it is impossible since installation process need to enable the network). So, if I enable the network connection, any effect to the Domino Directory?

Michael,for your particular requirement, I would not run the setup routine after Domino installation but rather copy the few relevant files like names.nsf, server.id and notes.ini to the new machine.

While you would of course have to check and possibly correct notes.ini if there are different path settings etc.

I’ve another question.

Server A is the first Server (which is R4.6) and Server B is the additional Server, now Server A is shutdown (nearly eight months),

the admin process and register user is by Server B (our environment also include other additional server in remote site).

If I want to reinstall Server B to other machine (my purpose is to test the backup and restore and set a spare Domino Server)

What type of Server B should be select during installation : First Server or Additional Server ???

Also, do you success to startup the Domino if just copy the relevant files instead of run the setup routine ?

Please advise.
