Redirect feature

Hello, does anyone know if the database redirect feature in Notes 8 needs to have both servers up?More clearly, if I need to move a database from server A to server B… do I need server A to be up and running so users that still have there workspace icons pointing to server A be redirected to server B?

Thank you for any help

Paolo

Subject: yes, maybe use clustering

Yes, the redirect option puts a placeholder on ServerA. That placeholder redirects the users to ServerB. Taking down ServerA means the users can’t get to the palceholder to be redirected. This is intended for when you are movign applications around on the servers to re-distribute them…for instance, to put a larger app on cheaper disk or something.

If you want to redirect users because you are taking down ServerA, then what you want to do is Cluster ServerA and ServerB. Leave it up for a few days, or until all clients have hit serverA to update their cluster settings. Then when you take ServerA down, when a lcient tries to hit ServerA and sees it is down, it will automatically look for the application on ServerB.
