I can’t even get Domino installed on RedHat 9 (stops at the OS version check). Unfortinately, the servers we have ONLY support RedHat 9.
What am I supposed to do here? The hardware vendors are no longer supporting RedHat 8 and Lotus is refusing to support (or even fix) Domino on RedHat 9. The hardware cannot have RedHat 8 installed on it since the drivers only support 9.
Am I screwed? Is Lotus planning any RedHat 9 version or do I need to go out and buy Windows 2003… oh wait, that doesn’t work either!!
Make sure after you add this setting that you either re-execute your profile or restart your terminal window for this to take effect. You may get a warning during the install, but it should install and operate. Do bear in mind, like Alan posted, that RedHat 9 is not a supported platform. While this is ok for testing, you’ll want to stick with the supported versions for your production servers.
I’ve installed 5.0.x, 6.0.x, and now 6.5 on various flavors of RedHat from 6.x to 9 and the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL setting has always done the trick.
I have to cry too. Like I wrote already a few times in this forum. And everybody should do this.
Because if nobody complains about this, IBM thinks “Hey, everything’s fine. Take it easy, you guys in the development! NO HURRY!”
But, everything is not fine. We want Redhat 8 or even 9 (in my dreams) supported.
Besides, we are driving 4 Domino 6.0.2CF1 server on Redhat 8, withour problems. And one with Redhat 7.2, with no serious problems. So no need to complain for me.
Domino is not supported on SMP systems running Red Hat Linux 7.2, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1, until such time as these products have a 2.4.18 or higher kernel. This is due to a register usage by the JRE 1.3.1, which is not SMP-safe prior to 2.4.18.
But those distributions have kernels for non-smp systems. It does not make sense. SO why does Red Hat Enterprise ES not supported? ES is for small to mid size server. Small NT servers are support why not the same for Linux.
One of the many benefits of Linux is the lower price tag. IBM will still get its money for Domino, so why can’t it be supported on RHES for $349? That is a lot more appealing to small businesses than $1,500 - $2,500 for RHAS.
