We are getting users reporting issues about the recent contacts. They are getting recent contacts for individuals that they have not emailed for a number of years. There is not a lot of documentation out there as how it is built.
I think it is a really nice feature, but if it is loading contacts for communications or emails over 5-6 years old, it could loose it luster.
Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.
Subject: You are right!
Recent contacts is probably not the best name for this. It is really a working set cache of your last 2000 (or so). contacts. So some of them are not so recent. There is a new option coming in 8.5.2 to limit the contacts to only people you send mail to. That might help a bit but the wording still needs to be changed as these contacts might not be so recent but you still might want them there for the person you send mail to every 3 or 4 months.
Subject: Recent contacts fix
I had the same problem. IBM had me try everything from removing the recent contacts, deleting my $users view in the personal address book and my mail file… even deleting my local names.nsf and clearing out the notes.ini and redoing the setup. Nothing worked. Finally they had me do this and it seemed to work.
These steps seemed to work:
- Delete the files in the \workspace.metadata.plugins\com.ibm.notes.dip\ directory with the client shut down (where is the path to your Notes data directory)
This directory will typically contain files similar to these (although each user’s list will vary):
dipTable.ser
dipTable.ser1186420108375
-
Restart the Notes client…
-
Begin opening mail and other documents. The previous contents of the recent contacts view should be cleared out and replaced by a new set, which is generated as the user continues to work with documents.
