Receiving mail on domino server

Hi All,We have domino server and for e-mail we are using different server i.e. we are not using domino as mail server. We are sending mail through application from domino server.

On domino server in messaging setting I have entered our mail serve’s address in

1)Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain: 2)Local Internet domain smart host:

It’s working fine. i.e. all emails going to other server.

I wanted to receive mail for particular one email id on domino server except others. Can anyone help me what setting I have to do?

Subject: Clarification

I want to be sure I understand the setup and the question. How I see it, all mail that comes into your environment comes into the Domino mail.box but then gets routed to another server (Smarthost) where a users mailfiles exists. You want mail that comes in for one particular recipient to stay on the Domino server and not route to the Smarthost?

If I am accurate in my assessment, this could only be done if this one user that you want to stay on Domino is the ONLY user listed in your Domino directory.

Thanks for reply,

Yes whatever you said is correct. We are using other mail server (not domino) so all mails are routed to (Smarthost) where a users mailfiles exists.

As you said this could only be done if this one user that you want to stay on Domino is the ONLY user listed in your Domino directory.

But I have also other users listed in domino directory.

Is it possible for that particular user mails are not routed to smart host so that they will remain on domino server only.

In fact I wanted to use my mymail.nsf file for sending and receiving mail I am able to send mail using mymail.nsf file but not able to receive because of above circumstances.

Subject: Smarthost

I understand your query at this point. There are different approaches to using the Smarthost fields. As you will see there are 2 different Smarthost fields. One that says “Local Internet Domain Smart host” and “Smart host is used for all local internet domain recipients”. My guess is that you have the second one enabled.

What that does is actually tells the router not to even look at the Domino directory to see if the user exists there. It automatically sends it to the server you have listed in the Smarthost field.

If you have this field disabled and the “Local internet domain smart host” populated, this will tell the router to confirm if the recipient exists in the Domino directory. If they do the message will route locally. If the recipient does not exist in the Domino directory, then the message gets routed to the Smarthost.

A technote that does not hit on this exactly, but explains it briefly for your reference is 1406826.

Hope this helps

Subject: notes address and/or dns

If you’re wanting the Domino server to delvier this address to a mailbox on the domino server, you just need the mailbox and use the notes address (username/org).

If you are talking about the other mail system and/or using the internet address (user@domain.com), then both Domino and whatever-other-mail are looking at DNS to get that domain and route appropriately. You might need to set up a different domain for mail on the domino server … I don’t think there is a way in DNS to say that some mail for that domain goes one place and others go elsewhere.
