I have an application on a server that was recently upgraded to Domino 6. Now, as you change to different views on the Navigator, it take seems to take much longer for the view to show up, and the message “Rebuilding index” appears on the status line. Is there a new switch in version 6 that might be causing this?
Subject: I believe so
but not for a fact. I just went through this myself - we upgraded from 4.6 to 6.5 and no one complained until this past week. When I went into design mode for each view this weekend I noticed that every single view had defaulted to “index each time” (or whatever the wording) and had stayed on never discard index. I had to change all my views to discard index after 45 days of inactivity and it worked wonders for my users this am - no complaints now. HTH Cathy
Subject: Thank you!
Cathy, that seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the info.
Subject: Glad to help - it was a weird one
because it was unexpected - I’m sure I’ll find a few other glitches along the way because of the upgrade - if you do, please post 'em back here!! thanks ! Cathy
Subject: Constant ‘Rebuilding Index’ in database view
Hi,
We’ve got some databases that if the users are sitting in the views (since our upgrade to 6.5.2 client), the client starts to bog after a while. I discovered that the ‘rebuilding index’ message was always in the status.
So, I found this thread and wonder, if I need to change our view refresh settings in the design; currently the refresh is ‘Auto, after first use’ should it instead be ‘auto, at most every 1 hour’ (some of the dbs are 2 gig or better).
Discard is set to ‘if inactive for 45 days’.
Thanks
Markus
