While I can’t find it documented anywhere, my experience seems to conclude that Reader fields do not work when filled with CANONICALIZE nor ABBREVIATE names; Reader fields only work with the Common Name ([CN]) component. Is this correct? If this is so, so be it, but I wonder why.

Readers fields only work correctly with fully-canonical names (that is “CN=John Smith/OU=Sales/O=Acme”). Abbreviated names will not work, and common names make assumptions about the OU and O values that may not be true.
