Have seen 1 or 2 posts identical to this but no input as far as any solution or clue as to what may be causing it.
User receives a message opens it, closes it. When they go back to inbox it appears Red as Unread! It does seem to happen more often when they reply or forward. Any clues??? I have 4 people on Notes 6.01 & its happened to all of us.
Anyone hear if this is a documented bug???

I also have a user whose client just started with this behavior. It started after running ncompact in order to compress the mail database.
User specifics:
Notes 6.0.3
Win 2K
Messages return to their unread (red) status in cases where they are responded to or forwarded. When simply read, they turn to black and retain their ‘read’ status. Prior posting is from 03 with no additional posts concerning a fix. Any information welcome.

A former colleague suggested this solution, which appears to be the true fix:
Open Inbox view and rt click on on any inbox msg.
Select Document Properties.
Change the view to Database from Document using the down arrow to the right of Document.
The view changes and select the Design tab.
Place a tick mark where it says, “Do not mark modified documents as unread”
