We are currently re-organising our licenses. We have a few users who have a full Notes clients but we think they would be better with iNotes clients instead. Can I change them easily? I dont want to loose their existing mail!
Thanks,
Cheryl.

Subject: Re-register person to iNotes Access
Just replace the design of their mail file with the iNotes6 template. That will give them all the iNotes design features and won’t affect the data stored in their mailbox.

In old Notes 4 days, you could change the ID type (Desktop, Notes Client and something else?) just by changing the license field in the person record in the address book.
The user would even get a prompt the next type he logged in saying that the admin had approved a change in his license type and the ID file got (somehow) modified to reflect this change.
I suppose it would be the same or very similar in Notes 5 & 6.
Replacing the database design will indeed give the user the possibility to use iNotes without losing his current messages, but will not change the license type, AFAIK.

I don’t believe the license type is controlled that way anymore. I believe it is more of an honor system type thing. You are supposed to only install the software you have a license for. For instance, we have only a few Notes developers in our company, and have only purchased a limited number of designer licenses, but there is really nothing to stop someone from installing the design client and using it assuming they can get their hands on the software (server restrictions aside).
I can set someone as a client only in the Address book, but they can still install the designer.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks!
Should an iNotes user have licence type ‘Lotus Notes’, ‘Lotus Notes Mail’ or ‘Lotus Notes Desktop’?
