R8.5 Work area stops responding

Every hour or so my R8.5 client will “blank” out the work area. Here is a screen shot of what happens:http://www.frontiernet.net/~snog/Notesissue.JPG

I can still click the sidebar and even the menu items seem to respond but clicking any option doesn’t do anything.

I have to either run nsd -kill or run the killnotes file to close notes.

Here are some of the error logs from my C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes\Data\workspace\logs

http://www.frontiernet.net/~snog/R8errors.txt

and here are the last two nsd -kill reports:

http://www.frontiernet.net/~snog/kill_W32I_LL3M6545_2009_03_10@12_10_49.log

&

http://www.frontiernet.net/~snog/kill_W32I_LL3M6545_2009_03_11@09_51_29.log

As I mentioned, this happens almost hourly and with a project plan of rolling out the R8.5 client to our end users in the next month or so I’d like to get a fix/ reason for this.

Thanks,

Shane Meisner

Subject: Can you please collect the following data for the hang?

Collecting data for a hang
If the Notes Client is unresponsive, and remains unresponsive, it may be hung.

To determine the root cause of the hang, an NSD and Java core file need to be generated.
To do so, perform the following steps:

  1. Open a DOS command prompt

  2. Switch to the Notes data directory

  3. Run ..\NSD (no args, assuming that the program dir is "above" the data directory

  4. After the NSD completes, supply these 2 files, or do an ISA data collection

  5. data\IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT\nsd*.txt file

  6. data\workspace\logs\java*.txt file "Java core"

Subject: New nsd & java core files

Some more insight from today…

I was running just fine from 7:00am to about 11:10am or so… The only thing that changed was that around 10:45am or so I opened Designer to update a database. Notes continued to run fine, even after closing designer… It was 10 to 15 minutes after closing designer that Notes stopped responding.

here is a link to the New NSD file, with no arguments:

http://www.frontiernet.net/~snog/nsd_W32I_LL3M6545_2009_03_12@11_20_52.log

& the java file:

Subject: In reviewing this NSD and the previous ones, the NLNOTES.EXE client process is longer running.
