Does anybody know if it is possible to run Domino servers with R8.5 R7 & R5 in the same domino domain?
The idea would be that the R7 server would be the ‘hub’ replicating only system databases to & from the R5 & R8.5 servers
We have mail users on R5 servers that will be migrated to a new domain in 2 months so an upgrade for them is no option, but applications that need to be upgraded to R8.5 on another server in the domain. Would the use of an R7 server as a hub for system databases be a solution until the R5 servers can be shut down?

Now that you know you will be running in an Unsupported Configuration, IMHO chances are pretty good things will work just fine as we are pretty good about backward compatibility… If you do run into problems and call support they will tell you that you are running in an unsupported configuration… If that is not an acceptable risk you should wait the two months until you are ready to upgrade those R5 mail servers.

Subject: Issues between 5 and 8
I have seen issues on replication, at least between servers of version 5 and server version 8 (maybe for clients v5, but it might have been fixed in v8 fixes).
And also problems with new certificates (IDs of users or servers) at least if you choose a high level of encription in version 8 that is not available in version 5, these could disallow servers v5-v8 to communicate directly.
