R6 Cluster: No Failover for R5 Clients

Hi all!

We’ve just migrated our R5 environment to 6.0.1 CF1 and set up a cluster with two servers. Failover works fine for the R6 clients, but older versions don’t connect to the backup system, if the main one goes down. They even don’t look for it, as if they don’t know it’s there …

Has anyone seen this before?

Thx in advance

Lars

If i recall, in R5, the notes clients have to be restarted to pick up the backup server. In R6 they fail over automatically.

That’s not correct, refering to the R5 documentation. For the R5 Client there have just been fewer options to trigger the failover.

If your R5 clients are using a Welcome Page that lists their Inbox, Calendar etc. they are still trying to connect to their Home Server. If they click on the “Mail” icon in the Bookmark bar, this should trigger failover.

We have set up a test cluster with R6.5 beta.

Our R5 client fails over simply by exiting out of the nsf that was open on the failed server and reopening the nsf.

Try this - exit out of the Notes client and delete the cache.dsk file.
