I have a table on a form, with background colors on it. When I “Create → Form” from the client menu, the background color isn’t there. Since the background color is dark, and the text is white to show up on it, I have a fully white table with invisible white label text.

The context menus don’t appear in Designer, but they appear just fine in the Client. Toolbar preferences shows that all of the context-sensitive menues are enabled, but the ones relating to Designer are never painted. The static menus appear across the board.

Then again, I don’t have a textured background in my R6 workspace, either. None of the solutions offered on the forum had any particular effect, so it’s just been like that since I installed R6 three or four months ago. Such is Notes. Guess I just don’t rate color in tables, in this one database. (shrug) I think it’s an R5-created one, anyway. Perhaps I should cotton onto to some cognitive flow and just rebuild it R6?

I am running an R5 and an R6 client along with an R5 server on this box, scattered around in three directories. Configuration was assisted by the company Admin Alpha Geek and all around Installation Uber Mensch, so it’s been reasonably trouble-free, particularly the R5 side. Maybe there’s some wierdo interaction going on? Oh the woes of being between version rollouts.

Anyway I have a Serious Java Dysfunction to chew on … this and the workspace thing are curios that would be nice to have explained.

No textured workspace and no colours? Under your advanced settings for your display adapter, try setting the hardware acceleration to none.

Note, particularly, that there are known problems with certain ATI adapter/driver combinations.

- In case anyone should look at this, I finally remembered to change this, and it has NO EFFECT. Still no textured workspace, and I abandoned that configuration method so the Form that was having the trouble no longer exists, and I can’t say if the hardware acceleration setting affected it. Me? (wry grin)- Hardware accelleration affects workspace texture? And table colors in a single database? How odd. But I’m not authorized to change that with this account … I’ll have to try to remember to do it the next time I login as Admin.

This particular laptop has an Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200, according to the display properties. First non-ATI card I ever owned. (grin)

See how easy a nice tone is?
Are the tables nested by any chance? Also, double check that you have set the background colors on the correct Table properties tab as well. Sometimes when I am tired, I accidentally set it for the border color and not the cell background.
You might want to be careful in using White text over certain dark backgrounds for a couple of reasons:

The user may be color blind to the background color and will not see the text (that old 508(c)(3) thing there).

When the form is printed, depending on client settings and the printer, may cause unexpected results.
As far as the menus, set those properties in designer (i,e do not assume that the settings inherit from the Client as they are two different programs).

- Forgot to check … color is in “Cell Color” on the “Table/Cell Background” tab, and appears correctly on the Form in Designer.

Context icons were fixed by deleting bookmarks.nsf and reconfiguring everything. Now they’re back in Designer as well.

Tables aren’t nested: simple table with two columns, five rows, and no merges cells. Left side and top are a darker color to set off the labels and heading from the remainder, which contains fields. This Form is not intended to be printed … it contains configuration information for a Java Agent so things like the server to hit may be changed without going into Designer. Mindlessly simple, it is.

For now I just made the text black. It’s harder to see on the darker background in Designer, but since the background doesn’t appear in the Client, it doesn’t make any difference. (shrug) If the background should magically decide to re-appear I’ll worry about it then. Like I said, this form will not be used very often, and most likely that user will be me. It’s just more Reverse Notesian Wierdness. (bemused grin)
