Quick challenge for anyone

I have a series of alpha-numeric entries in a field that I need converted to all numeric.

The field can contain strings like those in the following example.

4SF,3,5SF,6SF,7SS,8SF,9,10SS…

I want to find a fast easy (key word being easy) way to return just the numbers in a list.

4,3,5,6,7,8,9,10…

@Functions are required as this is being done in either a view column or in a field on the form itself.

There is no limit to the length of the original string, but there will either be zero or two characters after the digit.

Have at it! I look forward to the results.

Subject: how about @TextToNumber(@Text(Field))?

Subject: Nope, that only returns the first element

Subject: Is the original value a list or a string with commas?

Ted is absolutely correct if the original is a list, which is the way you make it look. If not, just change it to:

@TextToNumber(@Explode(Field; “,”))

Since you don’t need the inner @Text if you know for sure it is a text list or string. By the way, if you want to see this demonstrated, use the code below:

tmpval := “12AB”:“23BC”:“34VD”;

tempnum := @TextToNumber(@Explode(tmpval; “,”));

tempsum := @Sum(@TextToNumber(@Explode(tmpval; “,”)));

@Prompt([Ok]; “Value”; @Text(tempsum)+" is the sum of the "+@Text(@Elements(tempnum)));

tmpval2 := “12AB,23BC,34VD”;

tempnum2 := @TextToNumber(@Explode(tmpval2; “,”));

tempsum2 := @Sum(@TextToNumber(@Explode(tmpval2; “,”)));

@Prompt([Ok]; “Value2”; @Text(tempsum2)+" is the sum of the "+@Text(@Elements(tempnum2)))

Subject: RE: Is the original value a list or a string with commas?

My fault. The list is a comma separated list. The explode worked exactly as expected. I think I have been staring at this code for too long. I am seeing things that are not there.

Thanks guys.

It doesn’t look like I will be attending this year. Things might change but the company is cutting back on external training and Lotusphere is very expensive compared to the other conferences our people go to.

If anything changes, I will let you know.
