Question on LN Developers' team - LN Multi undo function

As the LN is wide-used application why there is not such a “common” function like Multi undo is? Nearly every LN user can confirm how frustrating is when there is no possibility how to undo deleting of table/row/text etc?

You can see many of idea’s like this but there is no feedback or at least explanation from developer team at all why it’s not possible implement this “easy” function which can save a lot of time and energy when the person does mistake?

I bet LN users will more measure up multi undo function than some new features which they will never use…

If somebody knows answer for my question please put it here or forward it to the right person from developers’ team…

  • Of course no product features are 100% guaranteed until the product ships.

Here you can see that I delete three lines of text, and am able to restore them all.

Similar for rows and columns in tables…

Alan I have one key question - why this function wasn’t implemented in previous releases or better from the beginning?

Thanks

Because it wasn’t. Priorities are priorities, and as much as people like to yell about this, there have been other priorities. Any choice IBM (or Lotus before that) made about spending time on one feature came at the expense of other features, because that is what all software development is.

One could make the case that multi-level undo is as basic as cut and paste to any modern editor. If you accept that premise then it’s hard to see what could be a higher priority.

A more measured response would be that, given the customer feedback, it was simply a mistake not to have made this a higher priority earlier, but it will be fixed soon, so we can all breath a great sigh of relief.

Unfortunate example, I’m afraid, as cut and paste is very spotty in many applications, including Notes and MS Word, which I think you would agree are pretty well accepted editors. It is even worse in OpenOffice.org Writer, I am sorry to say. So, should the copy and paste have been made better before the multi-level undo? I don’t know. I just know IBM has added many enhancements that have made my left much better and that I would have happily accepted in place of multi-level undo. Of course, I am glad to see it added, but I still approve of their priorities in this case.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for quick response. Let’s hope it will work out!

I’ve tried your tip but I have totally different Properties Window. I mine - I see about in the middle option Delete/ Row | Column | Special. Could you reply me what version of LN you’re using?

Thanks

I’m using a version of Lotus Notes not yet released to the public. (I work at IBM). What menu items are you missing? Anyway, all of them (add/remove, append/insert, etc) should be available to via toolbar icons or the table menu at the top of the screen.

I see, that’s the reason;-) Now it has no point to discuss if you have LN which is not yet released. From your animation I can see that there is some kind of “multi undo” function. In my version I can’t do that at all. What release you have installed pls?

Thanks!

Alan is saying that this is “planned for the next release of Lotus Notes”. He is using the next release of Lotus Notes because he works for IBM, but it has not been released. His animation is from that beta release, so you won’t see the menu items in any released version of Lotus Notes.

Oki. Sounds good and is there any expectation when this “next” release will be available for IBMrs?
