Question on image rendering in mail

This should be a simple question: This has been happening for awhile. When a user receives a mail memo that contains images or html, the images are replaced by a box, with a red “x”…similar to a web page that is missing a graphic. Also, HTML is pushed to one side, with tags, etc., sometimes visible.

I have edited the person document of one user in question. The “Format preference for incoming mail:” entry was originally set to keep in senders format. I changed it to Notes Rich Text, and the problem remains. Which setting has the best ability to render this information correctly, so I can know that on my end everything is right? I realize that the sender’s mail format may be responsible…this is what leads to me believe that the keep in senders format should do just that. Obviously I cannot control if they are sending it out this way…I am just seeking a means by which to provide confident answers to end users. Thanks.

Did your company recently put in a proxy server? If so the problem is that the client can’t get out to the Internet to retrieve the frame contents. Filling in the appropriate section of the location document will resolve that.

No we have no proxy server here. Thanks.

Could it be that you have installed CA eTrust Antivirus voor Lotus Domino?

We had exactly the same problem, and it was a known issue by CA. Downloading and installing a patch fixed the problem.

you can find the patch here at www.ca.com or if you let me know your e-mail adres, I’ll forward it.

Joris, Thanks for response. No, we are running Norton.

Subject: The Keep in Senders format setting was correct.

You might be able to fix this in somewhat of a bizzare way. There should be a database called PerWeb45.NSF that is created on the clients machine. If that is not there, you will get those results. To fix, edit their Location document and change their Web Browser to Notes. Go and open one of the problem e-mails. You should start seeing the images load. Close the e-mail and change the browser back to its original setting.

This WORKS. Now I will just set the new policy being rolled out to notes w/ internet explorer, and the problem is solved corporate wide.

Big Cheers Bill. Thanks.
