Hi everyone,
I’ve been running 6.01 for a few weeks now, having upgraded from 5.08 to 6.
I’ve recently got some software which doesn’t work with Notes 6 yet (Blackberry Desktop Manager). The recommendation is that it will work, but only if it is installed on Notes R5 before the upgrade to 6.
So - I’m thinking of doing this: reinstalling Notes 5.08 (leaving my template as the 6.01 one). Installing the Desktop Manager software, and then re-installing my upgrade to Notes 6.01.
Am I asking for disaster here? Is this going to work? Any input or experience is appreciated!
thanks,
Dan
Subject: Question on downgrading and re-upgrading
Well, just for the record, everything worked.
I installed 5.08 over my existing 6.0 install. I could open the mail and see my 6.0 mail template in the 5.08 client. Then I installed the Blackberry Desktop Manager software, and tested that a sync worked - it did. Then I installed 6.01 over top of the 5.08 install. There were a couple of hiccups during the install where it didn’t want to overwrite existing files, but everything seemed to work well, and I can now sync with the Blackberry from Notes 6.01. The only problem I have found is that I can’t change the synchronzation settings in Notes 6 - I guess I’d have to go back to Notes 5 again to change anything - ouch. If you ever have to do this, make sure to set up everything exactly as you want it while in Notes 5. For those who never have to do it, consider yourselves lucky.

Subject: Easy work around
This can be done with a standard 6.X Notes client and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Obtain a R5 version of nstrings.dll.
Shut down Notes and the BlackBerry Manager.
Replace the 6.X nstrings.dll with the R5 version (save the 6.X version of course).
Start Blackberry - you will now be able to configure correctly.
Shut down Blackberry.
Replace the R5 nstrings.dll with the 6.X version.
Restart everything and work normally.
This has to be done each time you want to change your Synch settings.

Great - I’ll try this, thanks alot.
I knew that there must be some trick like this (registry hack, or whatever) but I had no idea what files to replace.

Leaving the template at the 6.01 version just might be an invitation for disaster.
Just my two cents…
