Question: ActiveSync support with Lotus Notes Traveler. What do you think?

Perhaps you saw the demo of ActiveSync support with Lotus Notes Traveler at Lotusphere 2009, or maybe not.

If you did see the demo, what did you think of it? Thumbs up/down?

If you didn’t see the demo, what do you think of the idea of ActiveSync support? Good/bad idea?

We’re VERY interested in your thoughts!!

Jan

Subject: Yes!

We are looking at deploying iPhones and other Active Sync-capable phones to all our employees and Active Sync in Traveler is very very very interesting to us.

Subject: YES, Please!

Yes. This feature will essentially drive an R7 to R8.5.x upgrade for one of our clients. And it will potentially save us a lot of time in crafting a work-around POP/IMAP solution for iPhone support. R8.5.1, please!

Subject: ASAP! ASAP! …

I agree: it’s very important to get a real sync solution for the iPhone. All our directors and some managers are using iPhones. Current installation: Lotus Notes ← CompanionLink → Outlook ← MobileMe → iPhone. … Very awfull! So, please help us!Why not ActiveSync?

Subject: Easiest path to acceptance

Unless IBM is committed to rolling out support for new platforms in a timely manner and is positive that they will always have access to lower levels of a device’s OS so that they can implement the support, this can only be a good thing.

Let’s take the Palm Pre for example. Nevermind that this device will (hopefully) be on the market before 8.5.1, theoretically it would work w/ Notes/Domino right out of the box.

Especially for smaller shops that don’t want to invest in a BES infrastructure, this out of box functionality without having to push down a Traveler-specific / client-side piece of middleware to the device is key.

Subject: ASAP please!

Need it - all our Directors went and bought iPhones and although iNotes is good they (of course) really want to synch for off-line reading and calendar…Ian

Subject: absolute must have!

we’ve alot ppl, set a mailforward to private googlemail so they can sync with iPhone and stuff.Well stuff like that makes Notes “not so good”, for non yellow people.

It’s a really needed feature!

Subject: Yes

Yes, I know a lot of people doing that with Notes at the moment so they can sync with the iPhone. Gives them one more reason to consider alternatives IMHO which is crazy

Subject: Active Sync ?

Hi,

i did not see the presentation.

More and more people here use an iphone.

I can not sync them with Commontime’s mSuite now.

I know that it will be great to sync mails and agenda with iphone.

will it be possible to sync over the air with a simple wap plan (not only a data plan)

Subject: Yes of course

Isn’t this a done deal just waiting for 3.0? Please don’t wait until LS 2010

Subject: A requirement… ASAP. We’re 2 years late already on this.

I saw the demo at LS2009, and it seemed to provide the expected functionality.

Providing general ActiveSync support (NOT just them minimal pieces needed to support ONLY the iPhone) is just about the only way to get general support for Domino out there. Native ActiveSync support is included in many phones today and expected ones (Palm Pre for example). There’s NO way that building out support phone by phone is going to be a successful long-term strategy.

I’m actually somewhat staggered that the question is even being asked.

Subject: And it looks like we have just enough to support the iPhone (ugh)

It looks like getting the iPhone to work is indeed the only design goal here…

There are people who really want to sync their new Palm Pre’s w/ Notes/Domino. Palm only sold ~100,000 the first two days…

Subject: ActiveSync & iPhone - YES, please!!

We have been fighting for years to keep Notes/Domino - allowing ActiveSync with the iPhone is one more small checkbox in the Win column (and not allowing is another check in the Outlook/Exchange or other column).

Subject: Yeah - want it for all them SonyEricsson …

phones that today has buillt in support for Active Sync

Subject: Complete ActiveSync Support would be great.

There are a number of devices out there in the enterprise ecosystem and new innovative devices and device Operating Systems being enhanced and made business ready every day. A few that come to mind that have adopted ActiveSync include Android and Palm’s webOS.

If we have fuller support for ActiveSync we could continue to evolve our portfolio to compete with MS for the business execs mindshare…
