Question about installing Domino on SAN

Hello,

Could someone inform me about the exact differences between the following two setups:

  1. Install Domino on Server, program files as wel as data file on attached SAN

  2. Install Domino on Server, program files on local harddisk of server, data files on SAN

The answer are really a mute point. The question is not really a domino server question but more an NT question. Domino can do what you want on any type of disk drive (SAN, SCSI, IDE, etc).

When you have SAN disk drive attached to your server they operate just like a normal disk drive. So you can do whatever your heart desires.

I have 3 servers using drives only from a SAN.

yes I know… Domino is rally wonderful…

the reason I ask this question is because I installed as wel as the program as the data files on the SAN. Users sometime coplain about performance…That’s why i was asking about the exact difference between installing the program files on the SAN or on a local drive. Data files I always put on the SAN

Do you have fiber cable from your SAN to your server? This really would be the key to know why it is slow.

You may be getting some subsecond slowness because the SAN as immediate as say a SCSI cable. But I don’t see any slowness when I compare the performance of a SAN Domino server to a non-SAN Domino server.
