i want to replicate two existing databases residing on two different servers.is it possible?

When i try two replicate it says the “database has the different replica ID” .

how to setup replication between existing databases?

Hi Syed,Only those databases can replicate which have same replica id. means those should be created as replica copies.

However, in your case you can try with this.

  1. Create a new replica of one database (say db1) on the other database server(same location).

  2. Make the other database(db2) as template.

  3. Refresh design of new replica db(just created) with db2.

Then you can replicate those 2 replica copies, either on scheduled or manual basis.

You can also change the replica id of one of the DBs, if the database u think is created by new copy method (but use it only if the servers are in different locations, size is large and network is slow, other wise its better to create a new replica.)

You need to change the replica IDs of the two databases so they match.

There are tools, like ANTRID, to do this:

You need to be sure you really want to do this before going ahead with the replication though.
