Subject: DAOS Backup / Recovery Solution
A year ago now a post was made by Lance Zakin asking how companies using Symantec Backup software could use DAOS. Backing up the NLO files is easy enough but restoring a large number of attachments listed in a txt file is a bit of a headache when there is no API available.
Customised scripts to backup NLO files are a way that some of us have worked around this “gap” but the solution was still not supported. What responsible IT professional would implement a solution that was not supported for a company when their data is business critical? Why keep promoting such a great solution to executives when responsible IT Professionals cant use it?
Arcserve and Symantec now offer support for 8.5.1 and DAOS, but they still offer no solution towards restoring NLOs.

Symantec only offers this advice for people wishing to try and backup and restore DAOS enabled applications.

My question is…Will IBM offer any further instruction or support in developing an API for Symantec NetBackup, Backup Exec or Arcserve so that people using these products can safely implement DAOS?
I spoke with Mike Garbett about this issue at a lunch during Collective Intelligence(15/3/10).

Subject: DAOS repositories on 2 cluster server have different size
Lanxess set up a new cluster with 2 identical servers, currently only 90 mail files are on the server but the size of the DAOS directory on the secondary server is 10 GB larger than on the primary, how could this happen as all settings are identical.Mail files were moved on the primary server and replicated to the secondary server. The repository on the secondary server has about 20000 files more and is 10 GB larger.
Subject: What is the status of DAOS?
By status I mean, is there more problems than these ten?http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21423520&myns=swglotus&mynp=OCSSKTMJ&mync=E
Or is this only 64B-problems?
We´re on W2K3 on our archive-servers and will be there for a time.

Subject: DAOS Backup on Cluster
What would be your advice for DAOS Backup on two clusternode with DAOS enabled? Backup all .nlo files on both nodes or just on one clusternode?
