Putting data source objects onto an XPage

I’m using Designer Release 8.5 Revision 20081211.1925 on Windows XP Version 2002 SP2 creating a new local database in order to create an XPage.

I can create views, forms and XPages. I can also create a data source and have the data source objects display as part of the data source. My problem begins when I try to select one (1) or more data source objects and try to drag-and drop them onto my XPage.

When I try to drag-and-drop, a black circle with a line through it is displayed on the screen and nothing else happens, until I click my mouse anywhere within the designer display. At that point, a hour glass is displayed and with 15-20 seconds, my designer and Notes client if it is running will terminate. If I also have the Administrator client running, it is left alone. But I can not get either the Notes client or the Designer client to execute again until I execute a killnotes application.

I initially thought that maybe my Designer install was corrupt, so I uninstalled all of Notes, reinstalled but received the same condition. I next went to another PC that had all three (3) clients installed on it and tried to reproduce the problem. I successfully reproduced the condition every time that I tried to drag-and drop data source objects onto an XPage.

Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the designer, notes and sametime. If I have the admin client up, it stays up.

does it matter that my current server environment is 7.0.3? We are doing a pilot with 8.5 and will be rolling it out to the entire organization soon, but not sure when. I didn’t think that it would matter since I’m working with local databases. I have downloaded several XPage examples and run them through the local browser with no problems. I can create an XPage, create a table control, drag-and-drop label controls in all of the table cells, drag-and-drop edit box controls into the table cells and then to a “bind to” for each field, but this is a rather long process. I would love to be able to drag-and-drop from the data source as all of the examples and articles state can be done.
