Prototype.js

My development team has been evaluating various JS libraries like prototype and YUI. They’re got some really nice things to make a developer’s life easier and make the user’s experience better.

However, we have concerns about documentation (especially for newbies) and support - browser support and upgrade support from the “owner” of the library. Is it reasonable to expect the library to be around for a while, 2+ years? We’d like to use some of these libraries, but I need to be able to provide reasonable responses to these concerns.

Is anyone else going through this? Or, if you did, how did you resolve these issues? Thanks for any input you can provide.

I would go with Ext from Jack Slocum. Ext started off as yui-ext and the 1.0 release should be available in about 30-60 days. There are also a couple of OpenNTF projects that are integrating Ext with Domino.

Domino Web Tools (DWT):

Domino YUI:

And Jake will probably have one soon as well:

Yes, thought I mostly use prototype currently. DOJO is another one, which should see more documentation coming out for it, due to IBM’s involvement. I actually find that YUI has quite a bit of documentation available. Probably more than you can stand to read through.

Also, the yui-ext libraries by Jack Slocum makes many things easier to do:
