what happened to “Prompt for location” from R5? I can’t seem to find it in R6. It used to be under File-Preferences-User Preferences.

I don’t know if you’ve taken a good look at the login prompt, but the location is part of the standard login now – the user can select the location and ID without any further settings.

I’ve got exactly the same problem - is it because we have blank passwords, so don’t get the dialog box up at all?
I want to choose location at startup but I get no dialog box at all

Look in File → User Preferences → Additional Options. There you can find "Prompt for location at startup

Subject: Its now on your basic login to notes dialog box. You can choose your location at startup.
