I noticed an inconsistency regarding the Profile Picture / Avatar in HCL Domino Workspace.
Currently, there does not seem to be an option to configure the Profile Picture directly from the HCL Domino Workspace start page/homepage. I found the option under the Mail service and added a Profile Picture there. The UI confirmed that the picture was successfully added, but it did not appear even within the Mail service itself, including after a browser reload.
What makes this even more interesting is that the Profile Picture is then available in some other services, but not consistently across HCL Domino Workspace. For example, it is visible in Chat, Meetings, Files, and Group Calendar, but not in Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Forms, Boards, or on the start page/homepage.
This feels inconsistent from a user experience perspective and suggests that the different services may currently maintain or handle user profile information independently.
From a product perspective, I think HCL Domino Workspace would benefit from having a central, overarching user profile. The Profile Picture should ideally be configured once at the HCL Domino Workspace level and then automatically be available across all services.
I think the same concept could also be applied more broadly to user settings. It is perfectly reasonable for individual services to have their own service-specific settings. Mail can have Mail settings, Calendar can have Calendar settings, and so on. However, there should also be a central configuration area at the HCL Domino Workspace level where users can see and manage all settings that apply across the different services.
This becomes particularly important when considering HCL Domino Workspace as an enterprise application that may be used by thousands or potentially tens of thousands of users. A centralized configuration model provides a much more consistent and scalable user experience and is also what users would generally expect from large, integrated enterprise applications.
The Profile Picture is a good example of something that should belong to this central profile rather than being configured independently within individual services.
In short:
I would recommend having a single HCL Domino Workspace profile as the source of truth for user identity and global settings, with the individual services inheriting that information automatically.
