Profile doc, Author access and Document Locking

I am using a profile doc to store values that a user enters on a form, so that the next time they fill in the form, the previous values are used as the default values. The value is stored in the profile using this formula in the input translation field:@SetProfileField(“theprofilename”; @ThisName; @ThisValue; @UserName);

@ThisValue

The basic process works fine, however I ran into an issue when I started testing. Document Locking is enabled on the database.

If the user has Author access, the profile document does not appear to be created while doc locking is enabled. As soon as I disable locking OR change the user’s access to Editor, it works fine.

Once the profile doc is created, again if locking is enabled & user is only Author, the profile cannot be updated.

I tried adding an Author field to the form with no change.

This feels like a bug. Anyone have any workarounds?

Thanks

David,

I would imagine that a correctly populated AuthorNames field on the profile form would do the trick. Since you say you’ve done that, I would only counsel that you double check that the field was correctly populated and really AuthorNames.

Thanks for your response Raphael.

I’ve double checked the field is an Authors field. I also wrote a quick agent that would display the contents of the authors field on the profile doc.

When the user had author ACL access and locking was on, the profile doc did not get created at all (using my agent to try and read it). Since the user has author ACL access, they should be able to at least create the profile doc. The Authors field would only have an impact if subsequent changes were not being saved.

…sigh

David,

I agree with your logic. I don’t think I’ve heard of such an issue before (doc locking interfering with profile docs).

Can you confirm that this is unrelated to your regular doc/form? In other words, just have an action bar button in a view that opens the profile doc for the user. Does this work? If so, then the doc locking is mucking up something in the doc/form, right?

still thinking,

I tried updating the profile via an agent and found the same behaviour. As soon as locking was turned off, author access user could update fine. Turn on locking, and it would not work.

I’ve had to build a workaround.
