Process d:\notes\nserver.exe (1164/0x48C) has terminated abnormally

8.5.2 Domino server of “Windows/Longhorn 6.1 Pentium” (Win2008)

Shortly after restarting the Domino, this message appears (and of course keeps reappearing every 60 seconds) and reappears across multiple restarts. The 1164/0x48C error translates to “ERROR_DEVICE_REINITIALIZATION_NEEDED: The indicated device requires reinitialization due to hardware errors.” I sure don’t see any device indicated, nor are there entries in the Windows event logs, no NSD files and the hardware “issue” reported by the Server Manager software is that the BIOS is out of date. Any suggestions on how to find what it’s complaining about?

It was suggested to me that 1164 is actually a PID. I didn’t think so since I got the same number after Domino restarts. He suggested that it might be cached somewhere, or left in shared memory a la http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21252974 . I wanted to add that while Domino has been restarted, the whole server has not been rebooted in 7 weeks.

Subject: Did you do a hardware restart and did that work

I did a hardware reset this morning (and after the Domino server failed to shutdown and restart nicely . . . a FINE way to start the day) I haven’t seen the error. Lesson learned.
