I have an issue here…I have a form, where the default users in the ACL are listed Authors. Now when user A submits the form, a Author Field is updated to include a specific group (i.e. HelpDeskUsers), and a Reader field is updated with the UserA’s name.
the user cannot edit someone else’s document, but if they orginally created it they can still go into Edit mode…I thought setting an Author’s field would prevent this…
Any thoughts on how to resolve my issue?
Thanks!

You say, “updated to include a specific group.” Does that mean you’re still listing the Specific Creator of the doucment in the Authors Field (any authors field)?
Could the user be in one of the groups you specified?

Or - if this application was not originally created by you - watch out for additional author fields, which might or might not be on the form. Check document properties from the view level.

Thanks for the replies…
To answer both questions…
The user isn’t a part of the Group which “Takes Over” the Form’s Author Field.
I checked the properties, and there isn’t another Author Field with the user’s name on it.
So the way I’m doing it should work correct? Even though they are listed as an Author in the ACL, if I change the Author Field of the document to someone else, but put them in as only a reader, they should only be able to read the document?

Actually, you should NOT add them into a readers field, unless you want nobody else be able to see those documents. A readers field does not limit an author’s rights to edit a document (if he is in an authors field).
If anybody else is able to read those documents (who is not either in a readers or in an authors fields), your readers fields don’t work as well.
Subject: Okay thanks…But what could be cauing my issue?
Thanks for the replies, now about the Author Field, recap:
User 1, listed in the ACL as Author
Created a document, when saved, an Author Field is updated to display a Group Name (i.e. GroupABCMembers)
Confirmed user 1 does not belong to this group
User 1 can still edit their own created documents…
What am I missing??

I assume we are talking about a Database on a Server … Not a local database?
The ONLY Authors field on the form (are there any subforms / computed subforms?) ONLY has one value in it, the group name and the person is not listed as a member of that group. (Not any roles which the person may have).
The document is not a Public Document?
When you do an effective acces in the ACL for the person it shows them with just Author Access, no roles and not a member of the group?

Sorry for the lateness of this reply…To answer your questions: On a server, only 1 form, no sub forms, only one value in the Authors field, and that person is not a member of that group. Also the document is not Public.
I’ve gotten a work a round to prevent people from editing their documents, but I’m just curious as to know why?
Thanks

Given all the information, you provided so far, I can’t think of any other reason but you still overlooking something.
Did you check the effective access for that user(s) from the ACL dialog?
Alternatively, when a user is logged on, have him hit the little “Security” button in the status bar and report (e.g. via screenshot) what exactly is displayed.
