Problem with server.id file's NTFS

Hello,

I found a problem in the logs regarding the server.id file. It no longer has any NTFS information. I think it is corrupt or the drive sector has fragments. I’m hoping I can hold off until Friday evening to correct this and run CHKDSK and restore the file. When does the Domino Server need the server.id file? Is it just when starting up?

Also, although we backup the databases each night, the last backup I have of the server.id file is from 3 weeks ago, right before I upgraded the server from 6.5.5 to 7.0.2. Does that matter if I replace the 7.0.2 server.id file with 6.5.5 server.id file?

The following error message appeared in the Windows system log:

10:04:40: “The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume E:.” Yet the server is up and running without any issues at this time.

I then checked the backup log. The error coincided with the backups. The backups could not find the NTFS info on the file: server.id

03/20/2007 22:05:50 ANS1228E Sending of object ‘\serverla02\e$\Notes\Data\server.id’ failed

03/20/2007 22:05:50 ANS4973E An error occurred accessing NTFS security information for file ‘\serverla02\e$\Notes\Data\server.id’

On my test server, I replaced the server.id file while Domino was running to see what would happen. No problems. But I don’t want to do that with my production server.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

You won’t have any issues with a 3 week old ID as long as it isn’t expired (not likely, You’d remember recertifying it I think)

To be safe, shut down domino before restoring the file.

to be REALLY safe, shut down domino and run that chkdsk…you may want to run fixup when Domino is up again - especially if chkdsk finds any errors in anything in the data folder.
