Problem with roaming, personal address book and Blackberry

Hello,

We’ve got a huge problem with the roaming functionality in combination with our Blackberry solution.

After setting up a Notes user as “Roaming User” for having all Notes contacts available on his Blackberry device, a roaming folder is created on the mail server and bookmark.nsf/names.nsf are replicated successfully into this folder by the adminp process. So far all is fine.

But then some contacts in the address book are multiplied, so suddenly some contacts are available more than 500 times. The file size of names.nsf is growing more and more. But this problem only exists with some contacts, not with all. I’ve also checked the document id’s of similar contacts, they’re all different.

Has anyone else the same problem or a solution for that?

I really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance,

Gerhard Adelwarth

Are you doing this just to get his local contacts? If so why do you not setup a wireless sync from the bes server for this instead?

Hi Chris,

Can you please explain how that works? Emails, ToDo’s and Calendar are replicated wirelessly to the Blackberry. But how can I manage to replicate the local names.nsf?

Thanks,

Gerhard

Hi Gerhard

First off you need to be running an up to date version of the bes.

From the Bes server you select the user you want to do the wireless sync for. You go to edit, then select PIM sync. You see in there all the things you can wireless sync. You will see address book. You will need to setup your names.nsf on a server to replicate with your machine (setup a replication schedule for it as well.). Where ever you put it, thats what you put in the properties for the part on the bes server. Its fairly simple and works fine for us. You should make sure that your device is updated as well with the latest software too.

Hope this helps out

Hi Gerhard, this was a bug we ran into with BES 4.1 SP2. You need to either apply a more recent service pack, or if you are on the same release as we were, apply HotFix 3. You will need to manually delete the duplicate entries in the Lotus address book and let the BlackBerry synchronise to get updated (I would recommend creating a copy of the address book before starting the deletions though - just in case!).Cheers,

Mike

I am having the same issue. I have three users who have several contacts that are multiplying some upwards of 30K. I have deleted them, watched the replication go through, wipe the BB device to get rid of them and they have come back. Did this recommendation fix this issue? If so, I want to make sure I understand the resolution. Did the BES and Domino both need upgrading? I am running Domino 7.0.2 FP1 and BES 4.1.2.3
