Hello all,
I’ve got a problem with mail size.
For bandwidth usage consideration, I’ve decided to measure data volume transferred between mail server and clients as a mail is sent.
Here is the problem :
when I send from my Notes client a mail with a 1 MB attachment, my network sniffer returns a 2MB traffic between client and server.
Is it normal ? Is it due to some parameter on my mail server or client ? Or it is some kind of bug ?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Alex

Have you got network compression enabled. ?

I don’t know, where do I enable network compression ?
Subject: To enable network compression
On the client go the follow routeFile>Preferences>User Preferences>Ports
click “Compress Network Data”
This must be done on both the client and the server for it to work. For the Server open the administration
go the following route
Configuration>Server>SetUp POrts(in the right panel)
Hope that helps

When you send an email, depending on your configuration, Notes saves the email in the sent folder, and it also saves it in the mail.box DB (to let the router send it). So there are two savings here.
If you want to reduce bandwidth, you can try compressing emails… see Zipmail (www.mk-net-work.com), they have plenty of tools regarding compressing emails.
