I have moved a few users to a Domino6 server and upgraded their mail files to 6 format and design. It went okay for a couple of week then one day, 2 users complained that they have problem with their mailbox.
The first user is missing a lot of his folders. The emails are still exist under All Documents and a few folders are still there. I restored his mailbox from the backup tape and found out that all his folders have the 'Prohibit design refresh … ’ ticked. Has anyone experience the same thing? Is this a bug in Notes 6? He is using WinXP and Notes 6.0.
Now the second user still have all his folders but a lot of his emails are ‘moved’ back to his Inbox. Any ideas what causing it? He is using Win98 and Notes 6.0.

Subject: Problem with folders
This may have happened when they created folders along time ago. If you don’t have a template name in your “inherit from” design of your mailfile, and you create folders in your mailfile…they will disappear when you refresh/replace the design of the mailfile. The fix is to check mark the “prohibit design refresh…” on each folder that was created without the template name present. But now it appears that the convert task doesn’t convert them for you. So this is probably the cause…as for the solution…

Thank you for your response. However, I did check the folders properties before I replaced the design and make sure that the ‘prohibit design refresh’ option is checked for all folders. And the fact that the folders are there for a couple of week before some of them decided to disappear…

It almost sounds like there is a replica around somewhere that they only just connected to for the first time. Maybe an archive replica or something?

Subject: Problem with folders
I have three clients with the same issue. It is random and only seems to happen when you run fixup and then compact on the databases. I have actually had some people loose the ($Inbox) and I had to replace the design again.
The only workaround that I have come up with so far is to do the fixup and delete all view indexes. Then run compact and then replace design again and move e-mails back into the correct folders.
If anyone has any other ways of preventing this I would love to know what they are. When you run fixup and then compact I saw a ton of corrupt folders/view errors and on documents. These were deleted and thus the problem that has been described above. All users were created with Notes 4 or 3 as far as I can tell so far. This is the only common factor that I have seen.
Hope this helps
