Problem with Administration Process

In our environment our Administration server(Houston server) is still 4.6.7 which is maintained by corporate IT.

Another Lotus server(namee OCCLN server which is 6.5.1) is being used by our group has names.nsf and admin4.nsf for both of them Houston server is listed as Administration server

We never replicate with Houston server, we used to do it years ago but we dont’ do it anymore.

Recently i tried enabling users to change the password from IE so i enabled the server to use session authentication and created explicit security policy and applied the policy to some users.

When i tried changing the password on OCCLN server it created the password change request in the adminp database but nothing happend ?

Is that because the the addressbook and admin4.nsf on OCCLN server were trying to process the request on HOUSTON server, the users for whom i enabled the security policy are not listed on the HOUSTON server.

If I change the names.nsf and adminp.nsf administration server to OCCLN server then is it going to help me ??

I am kind of lost here… and need some help…

Any suggestions appreciated…

sounds like a poor design of your environment to me. why on earth you would not replicate the 2 most important dbs in your domain is beyond me. yes, changing the admin server on your replicas will allow adminp to do it’s thing for you but can come with another list of issues so careful planning should be taken. If you have no intent to ever replicate with another location you should just have the servers each in their own domino domains so they can be maintained separately. Just my $.02

Do you think adminp process will run on a server without certlog.nsf database ?? in this case the administration server is the same server… all i am trying to do is giving access for the user to be able to change the internet password…

Thanks.

a user can chnage their intrante password by editing their person doc in the domino directory. the adminp request to set the http password only gets created whe you have a policy to keep the notes password and http password in sync. when a user changes their notes client password the adminp request to set the http password gets created.

I know it sounds crazy but you can call it outsourcing effect, corporate IT got outsourced…sensing the trouble corporate IT admin quit the job, our group got spared from outsourcing so… we don’t talk to each other… and they slowly moved all the notes apps from corporate server to some other environments…but because of just one app and some important user insistance…they got the server running…

But thanks for your help… i am reading a lot about the whole Notes admin stuff… its quite intresting… as a developer you only know so much about the big picture… this definetely gave me a chance to learn about complete system though…

Today i will try to change OCCLN server’s names.nsf and admin4.nsf to have OCCLN as their administration server and i hope this will make all teh admin requests running on OCCLN server… we will see what happens…

Thanks,
