When you preview from local, you are ALWAYS Anonymous, so an anonymous user needs to have access both to the database and to the views and documents in the database.

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

I checked Available to public access. Is this enough?

The form and the view has this option checked but still not working! I even tried to set Default user on the database to manager and not working either.

Is the default user the same thing as anonymous?

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

No, “- Default -” only applies to Notes client access. You need to add an entry to the ACL for “Anonymous” (no quotes) and give the new entry at least Author access to the database for local previewing. DON’T FORGET to remove the entry before deploying to the server if the database is not for public use.

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

I did create Anonymous user without quotes but still gives me “Documents not found” when I design-preview-inernet explorer. I even tried after removing cookies and cache! Im using a simple view that displays 1 col of one form. Work well in Notes client.

Im a bit confuse? what should I try next?

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

If there’s no entry for anonymous in the ACL, -Default- security settings apply, no?

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

Yes and no – Default will let a user open the database, but will not necessarily allow the user to see anything. My testing always gives an empty HTML for Default reader and no Anonymous entry.

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

Super interresting discussion but it doesnt give me a clue about what I should try next?

  1. Default and Anonymous are both in the db as Author (create and delete)

  2. The view is set to display HTML

  3. Public access is also checked

  4. Anonymous form option is also cheked

What is missing or what is wrong?

thanx for taking care of my problem…

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

“Anonymous form” means that the user information that is usually recorded in the $ fields is not recorded, it has nothing to do with access. Public access documents and design notes apply to people who would normally have No Access or Depositor access. Neither matters.

What do you see when you preview the view. And I don’t just mean what do you see in the browser – use the Source and find out what HTML is being sent.

This is the source code:

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

Okay. That at least means your Anonymous user has access to the view itself. Now take a look at one of the documents in Notes using the Document Properties dialog (or the free NoteMan Edit toolbar from MartinScott – MartinScott NoteMan Toolbar: NoteMan - Home ) and look for any Readers-type fields that may be on the documents.

Not the fields on the form, the Items on the document. That’s why you need to examine the documents you’ve created, not the form, and you need to use the Document Properties (or the tool I pointed you to), not what you can see on the screen when you open the document. A document can have items on it that have nothing to do with the form you created. You can’t use Designer to figure this out. (I hope that didn’t come across as being harsh – I’m just trying to point out that there is a difference between what’s on the form and what’s on the document.)

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

ok sorry for the delay… Using MartinScott’s little tool (nice app btw!) theres nothing at all in the All Author and All reader lists. My db is clean and now contain only one document.

Still not working in IE! ok for Notes client…

I dont really know what to do! This should be so easy and simple!

I can’t tell you anything more by remote control. If you would like to, you can send me a zipped copy of the database to take a look at. (Don’t forget to make -Default- a Manager on the sent copy.) My email address is on my Forum Profile (if you’re using a browser to access the forum, you should be able to get to my profile by clicking on my name in the posting title section at the top).

Subject: RE: Problem previewing a view on localhost ?

Id like to know why this isnt working with designer 6.5.4. What are my options? maybe you can redirect me to someone else or have other ideas?

It’s not working at all with any nsf I currently have in notes.

thanx
