Hi everyone,
I’ve just installed Lotus Notes 6.0, and I have a problem. Background info: I am only using it for Internet e-mail, and not with a Domino server.
When I click “Mail”, my e-mail loads as it should do. However, when I click “Calendar”, it again loads my inbox. The same happens when I click “To Do”. In a help file, it says to view the calendar, either click on the icon (which loaded the inbox with me), or click on the pull down menu besides “Mail” in the inbox, and choose “Switch to Calendar”. However, I don’t have this big “Mail” button with the pull down menu. When I click “Mail”, I see a green background on the title bar and the word “mail” (not capitalised). There is no pull down menu.
Is it because I’m not using a Domino server, and I am only using internet mail? If so, can I do anything about it?
Thank you very much in advance.

Anyone got any ideas? Without the calendar and tasks I just can’t use Notes. Please help!
Thanks.

In Notes, the mail database and the calendar are the same thing. You’ll need to create a mail database (File>Database>New, then select “local”, give the database a file name (generally <first initial + last name>.nsf, then select “Mail(6.0)” from the template list). Take a look at the Help database (Help>Help Topics) as well – you may be able to draw your mail to this new mail database using the replicator (depending on what you mean by “internet mail”).

Great, one step closer. By internet account, I mean an account that I access with IMAP. I can supposedly replicate this to my mail database inbox. I must go to the replicator page, click “Send outgoing internet mail”, and then press “Actions”, then “Replicate Selected Database”. This works fine.
It then says to do the same for “Receive internet mail” - but this doesn’t appear. I just have “Send outgoing internet mail”, “Database templates”, and “Local free time info”. It says: “If you don’t see “Receive Internet mail” and “Send outgoing Internet mail” entries, ask your Domino administrator for assistance in troubleshooting your IMAP mail account and connection.”
However, I am a home user, and have no Domino administrator to ask. Can anybody tell me how to get the “Receive internet mail” icon to appear?!
Thanks again everybody.

Receive should work once you have a mail database going. The outgoing mail is handled by a system-level database called either “mail.box” or “SMTP.box”. Those are automatically created for you by the Notes client – your “inbox” (your Notes mail database) is normally created by a system administrator at the same time as your id file is created. Since you have no Notes mail database (or didn’t have one until very recently), you couldn’t draw mail down by replication.

Hi Stan,
Right. In the replicator window I can now send and receive. However - when I do so, nothing comes into my SBoyle mail database. When I am in the SBoyle mail database, pressing “Receive mail” from the bottom right “Quickpick” icon says “Receiving database 1 of 1…”. And then no e-mail comes in.
Currently, when I click the Mail bookmark, it loads the weird program that doesn’t let me switch to To Do or Calendar (no pull down menu). It looks to me like an old version of a mail database. Opening “Inbox”, the only folders are Drafts and Sent.
When I click “Refresh” here, it downloads e-mails fine. But when I then click replicate, no e-mails come into my SBoyle mail database.
How can I get IMAP mail into my SBoyle mail database? Thanks a lot Stan.
