Postmaster incoming emails

We have deployed R6 incoming gateway and we have listed 2 administrators in the server document. We have also configured the server not to accept the incoming mail if the person doc is not in the domino directory.

The problem is when someone sends an email to postmaster@ourdomain.com, the emails are coming to the 2 administrators listed in the server doc. There is no person doc for postmaster as I have verified under $users view. Has anyone faced this situation?

Thanks

Anand

Subject: Postmaster incoming emails

Hi Anand, when our server was R5 messages sent to postmaster@ourdomain.com where being returned to sender saying the the username didn’t exist in the domino directory.

I creader a group “Postmaster redirection” whith 1 member (myself) and que internet address “postmaster@ourdomain.com”, so all messages being sent to postmaster@ourdomain.com came to my milbox.

After upgrading to R6, it continues working the same way (but I have not tried to remove the group, so I’m not sure what it would happen).

Thanks for the update. We naver had this problem when R5 used to be our incoming mail gateway.

We have not created any group called postmaster. This has started when we deployed new R6 incoming gateway.

It is an RFC requirement that hosts which accept mail via SMTP have a valid postmaster address.

By default, Domino 5 never did, se we created a mail-in db with that name.

I guess someone at Lotus decided that postmaster ought to go somewhere and, in the absence of an explicit postmaster account decided to use the designated server administrator. Probably a good idea.

If you want postmaster mails to go elsewhere, then just create a mail-in or group as suggested.
