Possible Bug in Views?

Hi.

I have an application in which I use Readers and Authors fields.

So whenever two guys at the office set only themselves at authors and readers, no one else can se the document (off course).

However, If one of those two create a comment to that document (as a response document), everybody can see that comment. I’ve set the view to “show responses in hierarchy”. So the comment seems to be living in its own “world”. As a reponse to nothing. I’ve also tried playing around with the “Don’t show empty categories” without any luck.

If I open the same view in the designer, I cannot see neither the document, nor the comment.

Is this a bug? or a feature? I would think that if a document for some reason have reader/authors fields, the comments should “inherit” those settings. At least in the views…

The thing is, that these fields are part of a rather complex workflow module, and it would be a nightmare to always update the comments whenever the parent doc, changes it’s values.

We are running the application on a Win 2003 server (running in VMWare Server), on a Domino 7.01 server.

Both Notes Clients 6.5.4 and 7.02 on WinXp is getting the same result.

Any thoughts??

Best Regards,

Hi,

You should have the reader and author fields on the form for the response document and the “Formulas inherit values from selected document” form property ticked.

If the values in the parent document are changed, you’ll have to check this on querysave and update the children documents programmatically.

Hope this helps.

Andrew.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Am I really expected to update those fields in the response documents?

Why is the reponse documents even showing, when I don’t have access to the main document? And the Show responses in a hierarchy is ticked.

No worries.

Strange, I’ve done a quick test on a standard document library template and if a parent document is restricted by readers field I find that the children don’t appear either.

Are the response documents definitely responses? (Check the form property for “Response” or “Response to Response”)

Hmm… I would think that even if they are R to R documents, it should hold true. What happens if you DON’T show the documents in a hierarchy?
