POP3 & Notes

Basically looking for a How 2

Running a Domino Server and Mail is basically accessed with a Notes Client. Some of my engineering staff run Fedora Linux and prefer to use a light POP3 client. Since they are engineers they all have mobile gadgets that support POP3. I spoke with IBM tech support and I understand it would behoove me to set “prefers mime” for these users.

The issue I have is that POP3 & Domino does not behave well if more than one pop3 client is used. I’m not sure what the RFC for POP3 states but I know that I never had an issue with this when I ran SendMail off a Unix box with 3 to 4 different clients (Outlook, Tunderbird, SeaMonkey, iPhone, kmail, blackberry …) and some on the same box within virtual machines banging against the Unix mail server.

All that has changed is that mail is now served up from a Domino Server. Read/unread marks are all messed up, if one pop3 client retrieves the mail (with keep copy of mail on server set) the others can not because that mail was already retrieved by one of the other POP3 clients.

In todays day an age where we live by email this must be a common occurrence. I read mail from my notes client at work, at home, from my PC I just POP3 in to get may email and when I’m on the road I let my iPhone POP3 in but Domino cant seem to do this like the other server did.

Anyone else having this issue or know how to make this work ?
