Hi,
We recently upgraded from Domino 5.0.10 to 6.5.3. On our POP/SMTP server, we now have a problem with a client running Easymail to access a mailbox. It authenticates with APOP, which worked fine in 5.0.10, but in 6.5.3 it gives errors in the log of the server stating that the user couldn’t be authenticated.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Kris.
Subject: POP3 authentication problem ?
Try the login with a webbrowser. If the error occurs with the webinterface too, you have a problem with this special addressbook entry. Try another alias (for example not the short name but the fullname or the lastname) to login. In most of the cases this works. To solve the problem make a copy of the AB. Shutdown the server and copy the new AB back to the dominoserver (make a backup of the old one before you overwrite it). If we have such a problem, normaly i copy the AB from our second server to the first.

Perhaps I was not so clear on the server topic. Our POP/SMTP server is a Domino 6.5.3, which has been upgraded from 5.0.10. I have tried to get the messages using the POP3 USER and PASS commands (manually in a telnet session) and those work. Only APOP doesn’t, although it apparently worked in 5.0.10.

Sorry, if other pop clients are working with the same user/password my solution doesn´t fit to your problem. Perhaps it is a problem with the client (firewall). I cannot help you. I have never heard of apop.
Subject: AFAIK Domino has never supported APOP
Are you sure that APOP worked in R5?

Subject: APOP and Domino 5
Well, I haven’t seen it with my own 2 eyes (Easymail was brought in as a part of another application), but after we completed the upgrade, it didn’t work any more. And the supplier said it used APOP. So I assume it did work under R5.Now, we’ve had it changed to the normal authentication procedure with USER and PASS.
