POP Mail Setup

Hi There,

I’m having some trouble setting up Lotus Notes to check gmail. I’ve read on here that people have been able to do it and I’ve followed those instructions but I’ve had no luck! :frowning:

Basically when I click the replicator button I get the error message, “Replicator error, The remote server is an unknown tpcip host”. One thing before you continue is that my company seem to be blocking any website containing ‘gmail’, would this be the source of my problem??

This is what I have setup:

Account Document

Basics

Account name: Internet Email POP3

Account server name: pop.gmail.com

Login name: user@gmail.com

Password: abcdef123

Protocol: POP

SSL: Enabled

Only from location(s): *

POP

Leave mail on server: Yes

Advanced

Port number: 995

Accept SSL site certificates: Yes

Accept expired SSL certificates: Yes

Send SSL certificates when asked (outbound connections only): No

Verify account server name with remote server’s certificate: Disabled

SSL protocol version: V3.0 with V2.0 handshake

Connection Document

Basics

Connection type: Local Area Network

Server name: pop.gmail.com

Use LAN port: TCPIP; LAN0

Advanced

Only from Location(s): *

Destination server address: pop.gmail.com

Only for user: *

Usage priority: Normal

Any idea’s?

Thanks.

If your firewall is stopping you, then Notes will not be able to replicate. I have had trouble reconfiguring Notes to talk to an ISP after having it configured to talk to Domino. What I have done to resolve this is to strip the INI of everything after the first 3 lines, start it up allowing it to walk you through the wizard, set it up for POP3 with the Wizard, then manually configure it for Domino. You may want two separate Location docs for Domino and for POP3.

Hi Doug,

I think you may be right, but I need some confirmation on my testing. I have a personal firewall (CyberArmor) which is enabled by default, the admins have it password protected so I’m unable to see the application preferences.

So I ran port scan on the loop back (127.0.0.1) and the port scan revealed that ports 995 and 465 (the ports recommended by the article on this site I read to access gmail via SMTP and POP) are closed.

Does this confirm that the problem is to do with the firewall? I also tried the scan after killing the firewall application through task manager but this didn’t seem to help :(. Aside to this, they have disabled the IPv6 Firewall protection that is built into WinXP.

Thanks! Andrew
