I am having trouble with Policies in Notes 6, I have logged a call with Lotus Support, but am wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what could be the cause too.
I have set up an Explicit Policy with a Desktop Setting to change the clients browser to Notes with Internet Explorer and to also deploy a Corporate Welcome Page that we have customised. I have applied this change both to individual users and to a group, and in both instances the change hasn’t propogated down to the client.
I have followed the instructions on how to set up explicit policies, and it appears to be working to a certain degree, ie the Personal NAB’s $Policies view has picked up the Policies assigned to the users and the Person Document in the names.nsf on the server also shows the policy assigned, but the Browser setting remains as Microsoft Internet Explorer and No Welcome Page is displayed.
Consequently I tried to apply Password Expiry via a Security Setting and this also did not result in the users password expiring, so I think it is a general problem with the Policies. Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong or has anyone come across this issue?

Thanks tried that and unfortunately it didn’t work.
I have a feeling it has something to do with either the Bookmark.nsf or Names.nsf. As I have created new ones and the Welcome Page has now appeared on mine machine, but the browser settings still haven’t set.

I had a similar problem when trying to get a desktop policy enabled on a machine that had an update. The solution was to make sure that the individual’s personal name and address book names.nsf on the local workstation has the Domino 6x template based on pernames.ntf otherwise the policy information will not be downloaded from the server’s names.nsf. To verify this with designer look for the ($Policies) view in the personal address book. If the view does not exist, then you will not be able to get policies to work

Thanks for your response, the Personal Name and Address Book is a Notes 6 Version, and the $Policies view is being populated with the policies assigned to the user, but the changes are not applying, ie no corporate welcome page and no Browser setting change in the Local NAB.

Just to advise - this problem is now resolved. It was a conflict between the R5 setup profiles that were set up for each user, as soon as I removed the set up profile from the person document it worked. I no have my corporate welcome page and my browser settings have changed!!!

Eric, you were spot on, we had a handfull of users who not able to receive the Org Policy and it related to those people not having the $polices view in their personal address book. They had just been upgraded and for some reason the upgrade process used did not change the design of the local names.nsf correctly. Once the design was replaced everything worked, and the mysterious $polices view appeared.
