The compact task on my main mail server starts compacting databases throughout the day, for no apparent reason. I don’t have a program file setup to run during the day, as a matter of fact, just to troubleshoot the problem, I removed all program names that had compact in it, and yet, throughout the day, at random times, the server just starts compacting databases. And to make matters worse, it shows 100+ tasks for the compact program in the processes, which totally kills my CPU and memory. So for now, I have renamed the compact.exe file so the server can’t call it.
Subject: Probably triggered by remote clients
Either Notes Clients or Admin Clients can trigger a remote compaction on the server. Nothing unusual.

Thanks Thomas. But would a client clicking on their own “compact” button on their mailfile, really kick off the compact task that runs through every person’s database? And seeing that I’m the soul admin with admin rights, how would I be able to stop someone from doing such? Thanks.

Individual clients would only trigger a compact for their own mailfile, but other admins could multi-select many mailfiles in the Files panel in the Admin client, which would queue up multiple compactors running on the server.
