Personal Journal

Does anyone know if the Personal Journal location (‘local’ by default) can be redirected to a network (personal storage) location? And if so, how best/easiest to do that? TIA!

Subject: Yes but why

Yes, NSF files can be stored on “file” servers, but you lose the capability and management provided by the Domino server. I use a Personal Journal to keep various info (and sync it through BES to my Blackberry), but replicate it with the Domino server. Therefore, it’s backed up through Domino, and accessible to my other computers which I keep Notes installed on. If you move the NSF to a mapped drive on the network, it won’t be accessible unless that server (share) is accessible, usually by drive mapping. Much better off replicating it to Domino.

Well, the main reason is our admin doesn’t allow anything to be stored on the Domino server other than mail/calendar/to do. The journal is local; the contacts are local; the archive is local. We just don’t have the space on the Domino server, but we all have personal space on a network drive that is backed up nightly. Plus, we can access that drive from anywhere we have Internet access, whereas we can’t otherwise. Or maybe the journal can’t be ‘Web-in-ized.’

Subject: NSFs on file servers

To get the web enabled view, the journal nsf would have to be accessed through the Domino server, not stored on the file server. You’ll get much better performance of the files if they are accessed through domino, not the file server. Considering the value loss and potential support issues, what about adding storage to the Domino server?
