Person Documents for external email addresses

Hopefully this’ll be a simple one for someone out there

I have directory assistance running on one server allowing me to have a secondary domino directory to contain extrnal web users. This works fine.

However, I now want to be able to email these users. The users are not “true” Domino users, they will be non office staff who will just have an internet email address.

I had thought that just setting the mail settings to “Other Internet Mail” and then entering an email address in the internet address was all I’d need to do, however this is not working. I get a bounce saying the user “username@myinternaldominodomain” cannot be reached.

Would this possibly be because I don’t have the directory assistance set up on my outgoing smtp server? For this to work would I need directory assistance set up on that server too using a replica of the same address book?

Thanks in advance.

Try Mail type “other” and just habe the address and no domain.

I’ve done a bit more testing and it would seem using “Other Internet Email” should be ok. I think my problem is is that I don’t have directory assistance set up on my outgoing mail server, so when my email hits that server, it can’t find the user in it’s directory so can’t send the email

Looks like I need to set up DA on that server too for this to work. Makes sense I suppose.

Try putting the email id in the “Forwarding Address” field in the person document.
