Our users have been reporting multiple intermittent performance problems since our upgrade to a modified version of the Lotus 6.5.2 Mail Template.
Problems reported include:

“Open Another Person’s Calendar” or “Open Another Calendar” takes a long time (up to 4 minutes).

First access to mail or calendar in the morning takes a long time.

Opening Notes Client takes a long time.

My Notes Client is hung with “Opening…” in the status bar after when I open my mail or calendar.
After a lot of research and narrowing down we eventually found the problem that was causing all of these reports and most of our performance related issues.
Problem Description:
Because some users only have access to read public documents they cannot read the “colorprofile” profile document, this means that when they access the profile document it returns blank information (as profile documents do) which is the same as having no profile document, views are built accordingly. If mailfile owners have set this profile document to use colours then readers and above can access it and colour information is returned triggering a rebuild of the view to include the colours. This process is repeated ad infinitum.
It turns out this exact behaviour and solution has been reported before and an SPR has been opened that we could not track down (has it been deleted?). We didn’t find this until after we found the problem so I have tried to draw attention to this again and put some more search terms in as I’m sure it will be a frustrating problem for a lot of other users. We also found some extra information that helps when reproducing the problem or indeed finding out how much time is being wasted on the server because of this and how many users are affected. There are two error messages that appear when the views are being rebuilt by the indexer on the server:

Public access user: “Informational, rebuilding view - validation error …”

Reader access or higher user: “Informational, rebuilding view - external format note has been modified since last rebuild”
There is also another profile called “calcolorprofile” that stores similar colour information and we are going to see if this is affected in the same way or causes similar problems.
Anyone got any information on if this is fixed in 6.5.3? In our view it is a very serious problem and we had a large problem with our user community.
