Performance opening some email

Hi

I have one particular user, they handle recruitment for the company, who is having particular trouble when opening a few random messages.

Occassionally it can take up to 45 seconds to simply open an email. On double clicking a new tab is opened, the message header appears, but the body field is entirely blank and stays that way for 45 seconds - consistently.

The message in question is 35Kb in size, contains only MIME text and originated from an MS Outlook 11 client.

The interesting thing is if I go into preferences and select the option “disable embedded browser for MIME mail” then the message opens immediately.

Client is 8.5 (due to be upgraded to 8.5.1 FP1), mail file is based on StdR8Mail.ntf

So question really is, what are the implications of enabling the setting?

Thanks in advance

Subject: IE8

This is a problem with the use of IE8 in 8.5 for the embedded browser (Notes uses whatever version of IE is installed). We’ve had to disable this as well for a few people.

I have 8.5 and IE8 installed and don’t have the issue, but I’m not guaranteeing anything, worth upgrading the client and finding out though

Subject: Thanks for that

I’m a Firefox fan myself so I never see this problem

It doesn’t matter what your default browser is I don’t think, Notes always uses whatever IE you have installed to render MIME email.
