Performance open a document varies depending on the number of search results?

Wonder if there’s an explanation for this: we discovered that a user was having problems opening a document after a search that returned 158 matches, but could open the same document when the search returned 3 matches. Does anybody know if this is the way it’s supposed to be and what would the reasonsing be?

In our case, it’s a repository db with big presentations on it, and it was timing out for a user and a tech support person. When I tried to open it, it was slow but it opened. We both were searching a view, but each used a different word. I closed the doc, tried his search and it returned 158 matches, and double clicked to open it and it didn’t work; tried a few more times and it never worked. We all changed the search to the other term which resulted in 3 rows returned, and it worked fine for all.

I didn’t know it affected, so wanted to see if this is always the case.
