I have installed 8.5.1 client on five machines and all five users are experiencing performance issues. For example, I opened an email and then clicked on a contact in my SameTime contact list. I immediately get an hour glass and the machine locks up for 30 seconds or so? Other times it seems to pause and, for example while typing a note, it will occasionally lag behind the keystrokes.
I have exactly the same issue which can potentially be bigger problem if our clients are wanting to upgrade. Has IBM provided any workaround/solution on this yet?
My 852 client standard (eclipse) freezes every 10 minutes or so depinding where I click. Then when I click in google chrome and back to Notes it runs again and then I can continue to work for a few minutes. The client does not crash, so no NSD.
When I run the nlnotes no problem
I run OS win 7 64 bits, brand new laptop fresh install.
At last, found the cause. What I did was stopping processes to see which one is causing the problem. I have a Dell vostro laptop with digitalpersona (the finger print scanner). This software was causing my notes eclpse client to pause all the time, dinstalled the stuff and now things are fine. So happy.
Subject: In the area of performance troubleshooting, there is not necessarily a one size fits all answer.
What release did the users run prior to installing 8.5.1?
If the release upgrade required NIF/view rebuilds, then there will be some time spent after initial client launch and after 1st replication to bring views up to date with the latest indexes. If that were the case, using Process Explorer (SysInternals) and attributing I/O and CPU to the process NtaskLdr would be indicative of this initial bootstrapping which will go away once the indexes are brought up to date.
For specific performance delays, obtaining an NSD and JavaCore at the time the problem occurs is the 1st place to identify the cause of the delay. I would recommend that the user trigger 2 NSDs back to back to ensure that the same task is performed in both captures. If the same task/code wasn’t captured in both NSDs, then the data obtained may only tell us that some code was executing, but not specifically the cause of the delay. An NSD can be triggered manually by switching to a command prompt, changing to the data dir and running NSD (no args). The resulting NSD file can be found in data\IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT\nsd*.log and the javacore can be found in data\workspace\logs\javacore*.txt.
If you or your users continue to see problems, I would encourage you to contact IBM Technical Support to have the issue looked into.

The users on question were either running 8.5 or 8.5FP1 prior to the upgrade. The installs were completed the day the code became available ahd the performance issues still exist today. IBM support has given us a list of suggestions and we are in the process of collecting information for them. i will post again when we have some results.
