Hello, I’m having some trouble with group membership on my 6.5.1 Domino network. I have a couple large groups created (like an All Users group) that we then nest other groups inside of (like department groups.) We don’t have the groups nested anymore than 3 levels deep. When we try to send to the All Users group, a couple of people do not receive the message being sent even though they are a member of one of the nested groups.
Another thing that happens is when we send to the All Users group, messages pop up saying that it’s trying to send to some people that are not even in the addressbook at all. It looks like they are past employees who are no longer here. I’ve done a text export of the addressbook and searched for the names, and they’re not in the names.nsf anywhere at all.
I’ve done a compact dropping the views from names.nsf with the server off, that doesn’t seem to help. Any suggestions of where Notes is pulling these bad names from, or why some people are not getting messages even though they’re in the groups would be greatly appreciated.
Does this happen all of the time or only some of the time? Does it always happen to the same people who are sending the messages?
If it is happening to a consistent person, see if they have copied the group to their personal address book. If they have, you will have the source of the problem.
This had happened to me. Are some of the groups hidden ? Document - Properties of the group. Who can read this document.I had a few peole not receive mass mails.
This worked fine in R5, but in R6, if the server or user could not read the group, the server could not send the message to those users in that group which was hidden.

The problems with sending mail to the All Users group actually happened to me the other day, and I don’t have any groups in my personal addressbook that resemble ones in the public names. I think most if not all of our users are having that same problem, we’ve checked some of their addressbooks and none of them have anything that would be conflicting. It’s just so strange that it’s bringing up names of people that have been gone for over 2 years.
For the problem with people not receiving the emails when someone sends to a gropu they’re in, it seems like it is only people in one department that are having the problem, their groups is nested in the big group. The properties on the group are normal. All I can think to do now is maybe delete and recreate the group. Other than trying that I’m stumped.

Chris, did you ever find a resolution to this problem? I have an identical issue ie/ members of nested groups not receiving mail, and also long gone users appearing to still be in groups when mailing to that group. I’ve searched the NAB with a fine-tooth comb and cannot locate these long gone members in any of the views (hidden included). Unless there is a rogue older copy of the NAB somewhere. It’s baffling.

I think the problem actually mysteriously disappeared a few weeks ago from what I’ve heard from people. I’m really not sure exactly what caused it. The only things I really changed around at that time was that I had shut off some features such as domain indexing and directory cataloging because they were not working right. Our systems were not maintained well in the past before I took things on, so I have a ton of cleanup stuff that needs to be done on it, I’ve been gradually tackling it as I have time. That’s really the only changes that I can think of that would have any possibility of effecting it.

It’s strange. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn’t. It definitely doesn’t have anything to do with personal addressbook entries/groups. Very odd.
